Winter Feet Magic

Ok people – it’s time to talk about… your heels and toes… and, well, feet in general. With Spring/Summer around the corner, it is PERTINENT that you start (if you haven’t already) getting those feet nice and smooth.

I wouldn’t normally share my shame about MY feet but the ladies of Broad City touched on the topic in their episode “Make the Space” (episode 4 of their final season – so sad) and so I had to provide some recommendations/must-haves for those with not-so-princess-baby-smooth feet like me. I’m here to help… not your local nail salon.

I feel the best thing you can do is learn how to care for your feet at home so you don’t waste money getting a pedicure every weekend. In December, I went down a bit of a rabbit hole on Amazon/some beauty blogs and the following few products and routines have changed my feet-life so far.

  • First, I’ve started using this Foot Rasp Foot File and Callus Remover once a week in the shower. It’s an Amazon Choice and really lives up to the reviews. Be careful not to scrub too hard – it really does clean up those heels and any callus on other areas of your feet.

  • After giving my feet a good scrub with the file, I then lube them up in O’Keeffe’s Healthy Feet Foot Cream and then throw on a pair of socks so it really soaks in there. Where has O’Keeffe’s been all my life? Apparently the product demo is men with “working” hands but, um, my feet probably qualify as “working” feet so I’ve likely needed this product as much as any handy/construction man out there.

  • I haven’t gotten a good pedicure routine yet – will need that before Spring/Summer – but another “tool” I purchased to use on dry feet is this 2-sided Hypoallergenic Foot Peel scrubber. Meant to be that final scrub/even out the skin before lotion.

Can’t go wrong with the combo above. My heels are seriously SO MUCH BETTER than they were before I used the in-shower file + O’Keeffe’s. For my traditional pedicures, when I can do them, I ensure that I have all my other tools too – a good nail file and buffer, cuticle pusher and cuticle nippers (also my savior for manicures).

  • Actually, wait. Last but not least, my OG savior, Burt’s Bees Coconut Foot Creme (more like a thick paste than a cream). This stuff is also AWESOME to put on at night under some socks. Smells yummy and leaves your feet softer than the night before.

Ok, I think that’s all the must-have/advice I have. Seriously, let’s get it together with the feet this Summer folks. It’s an easy/at-home routine to save us all from the unsightliness of what your dry, cracked feet look like otherwise.
